The Technics SL-1200G is a high-tech turntable with direct drive - Manufactured with the highest standards of material and workmanship, it is already a modern classic. The heart of the turntable is a newly developed direct drive motor without an iron core. This motor not only rotates practically vibration-free, but is also characterized by high durability. The clever design reduces stresses within the motor, eliminates vibrations, prevents cogging and still provides high torque. This absolutely accurate synchronization is also realized by an intelligent and highly precise motor control. The technology comes from Panasonic's experience in building Blu-Ray players. The platter contributes with its construction of three layers and a high dead weight to the extremely high running smoothness. A brass layer was combined with die-cast aluminum to achieve a very high rigidity. The bottom layer is made of a rubber compound that has strong damping properties. Every single turntable that leaves the factory is measured and balanced using high-precision special equipment. Here, the weight distribution is adjusted to barely measurable ranges, and only then does the turntable receive the rating "Balanced". The tonearm of the Technics turntable is made of extremely light magnesium. By "cold drawing" the material properties are improved and the pecision increases. The highest effort is also put into the chassis. A total of 4 layers are processed into a composite construction to achieve extremely high strength and durability. In addition to the aluminum die-cast, BMC and rubber layer, an additional 10mm aluminum top plate is processed. Thanks to the metal shielding in the housing, external sources of interference are minimized. The whole thing is rounded off at the connections.
